AS Roma eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The Italian club’s pursuit of Davide Frattesi has failed, with the player joining Inter Milan.

Consequently, they were exploring the option of securing Marcel Sabitzer, who had a loan stint at Man United last season but has since signed for Borussia Dortmund, as the Red Devils did not make the transfer permanent.

AS Roma have identified Scott McTominay as another key target for their summer transfers. The Scottish international has a history with Roma manager Jose Mourinho, as he flourished under the manager’s guidance during their time together at United.

McTominay’s development under Mourinho saw him break into the first team and become a regular fixture. The manager’s admiration for the midfielder may prove instrumental in Roma’s bid to secure his signature, potentially giving them an advantage over other interested clubs.

West Ham United and Newcastle are also interested in signing McTominay, with the Hammers being the frontrunner in this race.

They had a bid rejected as the Red Devils are eyeing £40 million for his transfer. The Scottish star has been unable to stamp his authority into the starting XI. Since the arrival of Casemiro last season, his chances to play have reduced drastically.

The club is looking to offload him in order to raise funds for Sofyan Amrabat’s move. It would be a wise move for Roma since they could lose Nemanja Matic this summer.
