Ashley Young To Be Released Later In The Summer?

The latest reports have claimed that Manchester is prepared to release Ashley Young at the end of the current Premier League season, with his role in the squad becoming increasingly limited following the emergence of 19-year-old academy full-back Brandon Williams.

After Luke Shaw’s injury early on in the season, Young deputized for the 24-year-old left-back in the United starting lineup, but even the former Saints’ defenders’ contributions have been reduced significantly, courtesy of some incredibly solid and mature displays from teenage superstar Williams.

Young was named as United’s captain at the start of the season and was handed a one-year contract extension at the end of the last term.

However, given that Italian full-back, Diogo Dalot is the first-choice deputy for Aaron Wan Bissaka at right-back and Williams has dislodged Young as a deputy to Shaw, there is an acceptance on the 34-year-old’s part that the club will decide to let him leave at the end of the ongoing Premier League season as his contract runs out in the summer.

Young currently earns in excess of £100,000 per week at Manchester United Old Trafford, and it’s only sensible that the Old Trafford club has decided to dispense with his services and will not renew his contract because he seems well past his prime.

Since his move to Old Trafford from Aston Villa nine years ago, Young has won every single domestic competition with the Red Devils as well as the Europa League. But with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking to invest in young players, ironically, Young may have to depart the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the campaign.
