Atletico Madrid could withdraw from race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo due to financial concerns

Atletico Madrid could withdraw themselves from the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo due to financial concerns over meeting the player’s wage demands.

The Spanish heavyweights were credited with an interest in moving in for the Old Trafford rebel who wants out this summer after Manchester United failed to secure their berth in the Champions League this coming season.

Diego Simeone’s side, however, stand unlikely to land the Portuguese superstar whose hefty wage demands of £480,000 a week cannot be afforded by the La Liga outfit, according to a report from the news outlet Marca, which further casts uncertainty over Ronaldo’s future.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have both rebuffed the opportunity of signing the Red Devils talisman with the Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel deciding against making an approach to bring in Ronaldo despite the Chelsea camp opening talks with Ronald’s agent Jorge Mendes.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner Roanldo has 12 months left on his current terms with United and is certain to take a pay cut should he desire to call it quits with Eric ten Hag’s side before the transfer window closes.
