Atletico Madrid frontman Alvaro Morata has played down the talk of him joining Manchester United this summer in a swap deal for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 29-year-old Spain international Morata’s name has emerged on the radar at Old Trafford with United head coach Eric ten Hag on the lookout for attacking reinforcements to shore up his forward roster.
With uncertainty looming over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in the United shirt and with Atletico credited with an interest in moving in for the Portuguese talisman, there was speculation of the two clubs coming to an agreement over a swap deal.
Morata, however, has quashed the rumors that he is keen on a return to England’s top flight, following his earlier stint with Chelsea, with the Spaniard claiming that he was happy to stay put with Atletico and give his best.
According to a report from The Sun, Morata’s recent remarks are sure to come as yet another setback to United’s plans of adding to their options in the attacking third of the pitch before the September 1 deadline.
“I really want to play here, work and play in many competitions. I’m excited to be here, as always, I can only work and run for the team in every game.
“Speculation over my future? It’s what comes out in the press, I just wanted to work and work.
“Atletico are one of the best clubs in the world. If there’s a market I can’t do anything, just work. I’m happy here and I want to continue working.”
