According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are one of the teams monitoring Alejandro Garnacho’s current status at Old Trafford.
This season, the Manchester United player has pushed his way into Erik ten Hag’s plans. However, clubs might exploit his contractual status next summer.
Following a few encouraging performances for the club this season, Garnacho is already well-known to the United supporters. This season, the young Argentine star made his debut for the first squad and delivered some impressive performances for Ten Hag’s senior side.
Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga’s situation presented a golden opportunity for the United prospect to gain playing time with the first squad. Garnacho’s deal at United runs through 2024, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Despite the rather relaxed situation surrounding his future, the Old Trafford supporters are a little concerned. Along with a few elite English teams, clubs from Atletico Madrid are scouting the attacker. Since Garnacho was born in Spain, the Spanish giants are also interested in signing him since they think he might want to move back to his native country.
Only two years ago, the United star was a part of Atletico’s academy system. They could now regret allowing him to sign with the Red Devils for the pitiful price of less than 500k.
Garnacho may be persuaded to make such a move if he returns to his hometown, but that is still a major doubt. Ten Hag has placed great faith in Garnacho and is not in the mood to consider any offers. Given that Atletico is likely to sell Joao Felix around that time, a new player for the attacking lineup would be required.
He is still a United player for the time being, and if the attacker maintains his current performance levels, the club will probably try to extend his contract.
