Barcelona boss Xavi has given his nod to Frenkie de Jong’s exit in a much-needed boost to Manchester United’s plans for signing the midfielder in this summer’s transfer window.
De Jong is understood to be the top name on the shopping list for the summer at Old Trafford with the new Red Devils head coach Eric ten Hag keen to reinforce his midfield ranks by bringing in the former Ajax starlet.
The player, however, has appeared indifferent to leaving Barca for joining United who would not be competing in the Champions League this coming season after a disappointing league outing last term which saw them finish sixth in the standings.
According to a claim from the Spanish news outlet AS, Xavi has given his go-ahead for the midfield man De Jong to be sold before the transfer window closes in a fresh boost to United’s long-standing pursuit of the Holland international maestro.
It remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford camp will succeed in their efforts to convince De Jong to make the move before the next season kicks off with speculation of De Jong’s desire to stay put at Camp Nou gaining ground as of late.
