Bayern Munich had held transfer talks related to Cristiano Ronaldo

According to Bayern Munich president Oliver Kahn, the German club briefly talked about the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo over the summer.

The Portuguese forward made it apparent that he wanted to leave Old Trafford and skipped the preseason trip with the Red Devils for personal reasons. The 37-year-old then decided to remain at United after a transfer fell through, even though the Bundesliga was a potential destination.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Oliver Kahn revealed that he had held talks with the board regarding a move for the legendary striker. He said:

“We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and Dortmund probably did too. We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga. Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that.”

After losing Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona, the Bavarian giants may have been looking to add a striker. However, they would much rather sign Tottenham power striker Harry Kane.

Given that the 29-year-old’s contract with Spurs is slated to end in 2024, Bayern is said to have made preliminary contact with the player’s representatives.

Whereas Ronaldo has options to choose from when it comes to deciding his future club. The 37-year-old would find it appealing to play regularly for another club rather than warming the bench.

This season, the former Real Madrid striker has started only one Premier League game, a 4-0 thrashing at Brentford in August. The veteran forward was given a chance to feature in the starting XI against Omonia Nicosia.

Ronaldo was benched during his team’s 6-3 loss to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The gaffer didn’t let him play as he wanted to respect the legendary striker and his career.
