Matthijs de Ligt Willing To Take A Pay Cut To Join Man United

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is willing to take a pay cut to join Premier League elites Manchester United this summer.

De Ligt

The Dutch star has been a quality player for the Bavarian giants since moving from Juventus in 2022. He is currently focused on the Euros 2024 but has not featured regularly for his national side.

Bayern are determined to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and hence this provides an excellent opportunity for United to offer a deal for De Ligt.

Although the former Ajax player faced injury issues last season, he has performed remarkably well when fully fit.

Man United want to bring in reinforcements at the back and signing a centre-back will be their topmost priority at the moment.

INEOS and Dan Ashworth want to establish a long-term defensive pairing of De Ligt with Lisandro Martinez.

Although a deal is yet to be offered, the 24-year-old has accepted personal terms and only a fee has to be decided.

He currently earns £260,000 per week at the Allianz Arena but is ready to reduce his wages in case he decides to switch to the English club.

De Ligt and ten Hag

There is a general understanding that Bayern are holding out for £40 million for their prized asset. Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s team want to close the deal at €40m plus add-ons.

The Bundesliga giants paid £55m to sign him for Juventus and they would accept a generous offer if it falls in line with their demands.

Currently, no other clubs have participated in this race and the Red Devils will be looking forward to sealing the move before the player or the club changes their mind.

De Ligt will be a guaranteed starter at United and will also fit in Erik ten Hag’s system. The former Ajax manager is notorious for signing players from his former club and this could be no exception.

The fans want to see the Dutch honcho move to the Theatre of Dreams this summer and solidify United’s ageing defensive line-up. It will be a signature signing for the 20-times English champions.
