Benfica president believes United will match Goncalo Ramos’s asking price

According to the Manchester Evening News, Benfica president Rui Costa is confident that interested clubs, including Manchester United, will come close to meeting their valuation for star striker Goncalo Ramos.

United are eager to secure a new striker during the summer transfer window and have been keeping tabs on Ramos among other potential options. Costa believes that potential suitors will be willing to come close to Benfica’s asking price for the player.

The 22-year-old striker gained recognition during the previous World Cup in Qatar when he scored a hat-trick in Portugal’s 6-1 victory over Switzerland in the round-of-16.

He made headlines worldwide by stepping in for Cristiano Ronaldo and making significant contributions to the game. Ramos had an exceptional 2022/23 season with Benfica.

He netted 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances across various competitions. Unsurprisingly, his impressive performances have attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe.

Erik ten Hag is reportedly an admirer of the young striker and believes he possesses the qualities to succeed in the Premier League. Additionally, French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in securing his services.

According to reports, any club interested in signing Ramos will need to be prepared to pay around €80 million, which is slightly lower than the previously mentioned €100 million figure.

However, it should be noted that the striker has a release clause of €120 million in his contract. Benfica president Rui Costa believes that potential suitors will come close to meeting the club’s demands.

Meanwhile, United are reportedly ready to resume negotiations with Chelsea after their third bid for Mason Mount was turned down.

The recent offer from United amounted to £55 million, with £50 million as an upfront payment and an additional £5 million in add-ons.
