Benjamin Pavard would help United to gain more depth at right-back spot

Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has drawn interest from Manchester United, who are seeking a challenger for Diogo Dalot.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick had earlier wanted to sign a right-back as that position lacked depth. Aron-Wan Bissaka would be the lone player to challenge Dalot, however, the English right-back could leave this summer.

This is still the case, and Erik ten Hag, the new manager, is allegedly eager to find a new right-back. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Wan-Bissaka in 2019, but he has since failed to impress, casting doubt on his future.

The Guardian reported that the Frenchman has been identified as the perfect player to fill the slot at Manchester United. After having a challenging time in Munich, it is said that Pavard, who is thought to be worth roughly €35 million, is thinking about his future.

The fact that the Frenchman apparently wants to play more centrally for the rest of his career may prevent Pavard from replacing Wan-Bissaka.

Since United just reached an agreement with Ajax for Lisandro Martinez, it appears that playing as a centre-back is not an option United will pursue. It seems like a long period will pass before United can consider adding a new player because no defenders have left the team as of yet.

Contract renewal is still a possibility for Pavard, and it hasn’t been ruled out that Bayern can secure his signature. If United wants to pursue a deal for the right-back, they must move quickly but must be wary that the defender would no longer choose to play in the right-back position.
