Rio Gavin Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand joined the club in the year 2002 where he was taken as a transfer from Leeds United. He played his debut match for Manchester United in the same year against Zalaegerszeg in the European Cup. Ferdinand joined United as the most expensive defender in the world. The English defender proved his worth and made justice to the price tag associated with him.

Ferdinand went on to be a major asset to the club owing to his amazing defending skills and strong posture on the field. He was a part of all the major victories of the club including the UEFA Champions League victory in 2008. The defender was so calm and composed that he even got to lead the team as a captain in the absence of Gary Neville. Ferdinand and Vidic went on to become the ultimate defending duo at Old Trafford. Willian Anthony Foulkes (BILL FOULKES)

Bill Foulkes joined Manchester Unites as a professional in the year 1951 after being a trainee for a year at the club. He played his first debut match for the club in the year 1952 against Liverpool. Foulkes was a part of the club under the reign of Matt Busby and proved to be an incredible asset as he set the foundation for the defence. He is best known for his aggressive tackling skills which proved to be a nuisance for many of the attackers that played against them.

Foulkes survived the Munich air disaster and went on to become the captain of the club after the tragedy. Under his captain-ship, Manchester United lifted their first-ever European Cup. The English defender was a key asset for the club’s defence as he was aggressive and possessed excellent tackling skills. He is best known for his goal against Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the European Cup.

Bill Foulkes stands third in the highest number of matches played by any player at Old Trafford. He played a total of 688 matches for the club and scored 9 goals during his career at Manchester United. Foulkes retired from the game in the year 1970 after spending a considerable amount of time serving as a centre back at the club. Nemanja Vidic

Nemanja Vidic joined Manchester United in the year 2006 after a transfer from Spartak Moscow. He played his debut match for the club in the same year against Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup. The Serbian international is best known for his attacking skills and has been very effective on the field. He went on to become one of the most loved players in the history of Manchester United owing to his presence on the field.

Gary Andrew Pallister

Gary Pallister took a transfer to Manchester United in the year 1989 from Middlesbrough. He played his debut match for the club in the same year against Norwich City. The centre back was 6’ 4” tall, making him a valuable asset to the Manchester United defence line. His staggering height clubbed with his excellent tackling skills made him one of the best defenders the club had ever seen. The player showcased strong posture on the field and was a composed centre back.

Pallister paired up with Steve Bruce in order to become the best defending duo in the club’s history. Under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson, Pallister helped in order to carry the team on his shoulder. The squad went on to win various titles including the European Cup Winners Cup in 1991. Stephen Roger Bruce (STEVE BRUCE)

Steve Bruce joined Manchester United in the year 1987 when he was transferred from Norwich City. He played his first match for the club in the same year against Portsmouth in League Division One.
