As reported by Goal, Manchester United’s long-term target Boubacar Kamara is close to signing a contract with Atletico Madrid in Spain.
His contract with Marseille is set to expire in the summer, and he is expected to leave in the upcoming transfer window. Kamara is a talented midfielder who can also play as a defensive midfielder and also a center-back.
Atletico attempted to sign the 22-year-old in the past, but their proposal was turned down. Marseille has nothing to do in the matter as his contract has expired, and the midfielder is free to join any club.
Manchester United had previously been linked with Kamara in January and the English club was in a strong position to sign him.
Due to United’s instability in midfield, a move for Kamara made sense. Kamara is a calm, defensive-minded midfielder who enjoys dictating the game and making crucial passes.
The French midfielder has made over 100 appearances for the French club despite his age but has yet to represent his country.
Kamara’s choice may have been influenced by the uncertainty of who will be the next Manchester United manager, as he would not know whether the next manager would want to use him in the United midfield.
However, Atlético Madrid isn’t the only team keeping an eye on the Frenchman. Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are also interested in Kamara, which might raise his wage demands. They are optimistic, though, that the midfielder would choose Spain as it offers him more chances to play regularly.
He is expected to make a decision next month. Atlético Madrid has identified Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto as a plan B if Kamara prefers to stay at Marseille or chooses another club.
