Blow for Manchester United as Real Madrid join the race to sign Harry Kane

Manchester United’s pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has suffered a setback as Real Madrid has entered the race to sign the English international.

Erik ten Hag consider Kane their priority target for a marquee centre-forward signing this summer. While United has not made a formal bid yet, they now face competition from Real Madrid.

According to the Daily Mail, the La Liga giants have set their sights on acquiring Kane as they look for a replacement for Karim Benzema, who is leaving the club.

While Tottenham values Kane at £100 million, it is believed that Madrid may have the advantage of negotiating a lower transfer fee.

Tottenham is reluctant to see their record-breaking striker join another English club, and Madrid’s interest could be seen as a positive development for Spurs.

Kane’s exceptional form in the recent season saw him score an impressive 32 goals in all competitions, with 30 of those coming in the Premier League.

However, despite his individual success, the Spurs finished disappointingly in eighth place. As a result, Kane, who has yet to win any major trophies, may consider leaving the club.

While the Santiago Bernabéu would be an attractive destination for any player, Kane could resist a transfer due to his close proximity to breaking the all-time Premier League goal-scoring record.

He is only 47 goals away from surpassing Alan Shearer’s longstanding record (currently on 213 goals). Given his current scoring rate, Kane could achieve this feat in just one and a half seasons.

Considering this, the 29-year-old might decline a move to the Bernabeu, which means United could still miss out on signing him. It appears that the Lilywhites could be determined to keep him for the final year of his contract rather than sell him to a direct league rival.

In such a scenario, the Red Devils may need to wait until the following summer to secure Kane’s signature on a free transfer.
