Blow for Manchester United as Wolves work on new contract for Ruben Neves

According to the Sun, Wolves are negotiating a long-term contract for Manchester United target Ruben Neves.

Several clubs in Europe have their eye on the Portuguese player as Erik ten Hag looks to add a new ball-playing midfielder this summer.

Since Molineux cannot provide Champions League football, a departure from the Midlands has been expected for the past 18 months. But, the report also states that Julen Lopetegui’s team would make one more effort to keep Neves in the hopes that the drop in interest in him will persuade him to stay where he is appreciated.

Neves has turned down multiple extension offers thus far since he has been considering a transfer elsewhere for the past 18 months, prioritising Champions League football.

Wolves are plotting a last-ditch effort to prevent the 26-year-old from departing for a bargain price. The player might be ready to sign since that European interest in Neves has recently cooled down.

The primary issue will be his wage expectations, which surpass £100k per week. Neves is also willing to hold off until the club can ensure regular minutes.

Arsenal had been keeping an eye on the issue, and United had twice come very close to signing the playmaker, who is valued at £40 million.

Neves has made a comeback under new manager Julen Lopetegui and has so far scored five goals in 28 Premier League games this season.

Neves has started every Premier League game for which he has been eligible since the conclusion of the World Cup campaign in December. Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of Spain’s biggest clubs, have also been monitoring Neves.
