As reported by ESPN, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has not ruled out the possibility of leaving the Italian team this summer despite interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have already identified Osimhen as a player of interest. Erik ten Hag wants to sign a new permanent striker to lead his front line.
This season, the Napoli star has been in outstanding form, scoring 19 goals and dishing out four assists in 23 games. The Nigerian striker, who joined Napoli from French club Lille in July 2020, is largely regarded as one of the best and most promising players in the world of football.
Due to his explosive performance, Napoli is presently leading the Serie A standings, 15 points ahead of Inter Milan. Although Osimhen is loving life in Naples, he is open to leaving the club if a good opportunity comes along.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“When you are doing so well, top clubs around the world are watching, mostly in the top five leagues. And to be able to attract interest from these top clubs shows that I am doing great and it gives me the motivation to do even more for myself and my team.”
“But I am focused on Napoli right now and they have the final say. I just want to help my team to win matches and win trophies. At the end of the season, we will see what is going to happen, but that is not up to me. It is for the club to decide.”
Osimhen, who is on pace to win Italy’s Golden Boot, has scored 18 of his 19 goals in Serie A this season. United are in the hunt of a striker who fits Ten Hag’s style of play, and the club wants a player who can score 20+ goals every season.
However, United’s chances of signing a world-class player will be greatly enhanced if a new owner comes through. It remains to be seen whether the club will be successful in their pursuit of signing Osimhen this summer.
