In their pursuit of a right-back, Manchester United are targeting Borussia Dortmund star, Thomas Meunier.
Thomas Meunier might be a different choice for the Red Devils, claims Mundo Deportivo. Barcelona has also been keeping an eye on the Belgium defender for a while.
The Red Devils have prioritised a right-back while keeping an eye on a number of players. The board has recently started to pay attention to players like Jeremie Frimpong and Denzel Dumfries.
The Dutch defenders have both competed at the World Cup. However, the latter stole the show as he expertly defeated Australia to help his nation to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing World Cup. Erik ten Hag’s side are willing to do everything it takes to provide Diogo Dalot with a good backup. Next month, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will undoubtedly leave Old Trafford, thus United needs to find a replacement.
The need for an additional right-back may increase over the coming months as United continues to battle on four fronts and has yet to enter the crucial stage of the season.
Dalot might be too worn out after his participation with Portugal and United should welcome a strong right-back. Meunier is also been targeted by Barcelona. But they are not able to bend very much due to their financial position.
The player’s contract expires in 2024, so any potential suitor has to pay a decent sum. Barcelona, however, has not yet made contact with his agents. Due to Belgium’s very brief time in Qatar during the World Cup, Meunier’s difficulties were fairly apparent. United shouldn’t have long-term plans that include a 31-year-old defender. This may only be a temporary solution for the Premier League’s powerhouses.
Dalot’s current contract situation also needs to be resolved by Manchester United because he is in the final six months. The club might eventually make a move, and Meunier might not resist the allure of the Premier League.
