Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, who is widely seen as the favourite to take over at Manchester United, has finally spoken out about the rumours tying him to the job.
Rodgers’ remarks will do little to stop rumour creators from assuming he is interested in the job. In a delicate issue like this, it is mandatory for a manager to maintain respect for the existing manager at another club, in this case, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Leicester manager attended the press conference and was bombarded with questions. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, when the Foxes boss was asked about the links for a managerial post to Manchester United, he said:
“It’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when you have a good manager and a good man who is working at the club. Secondly, I can’t comment on it because it’s something that’s not real”

He does not, however, reject the rumours as rubbish, indicating that he is genuinely interested.
Several board members are believed to prefer Leicester manager Brendon Rodgers. Some are concerned that the 48-year-old formerly coached Liverpool, while others are concerned that he has a history of losing league position at the end of each season.

Many, on the other hand, believe he is far more tactically brilliant than Solskjaer and will refer to the fact that he led Leicester to FA Cup victory last season – something that the Norwegian has failed to do despite a considerably larger budget during his three years at United.

Another intriguing aspect of this report is the claim that the former Celtic manager’s contract contains a clause that permits him to depart for a Champions League team, allowing United to avoid paying compensation to Leicester if he is appointed.
