Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has sent a warning for Manchester United that time is running out for the Red Devils if they want to make a move for English defender Harry Maguire this summer transfer window.
United will be hoping to improve on their sixth-place finish from last season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add as many top reinforcements to his side as he can before the transfer window shuts. The 46-year-old Norwegian manager has already swooped in deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka this summer but there are still a few areas that need strengthening.
The Red Devils have been crying out for a central defender that can actually lead the team from the back and provide a solid base for the rest of the side. Over the last few weeks, United have been linked with a move to sign Leicester City star Harry Maguire but the 26-year-old’s price tag of £80 million is a massive stumbling block.
Maguire will certainly add quality to the United defense and the center back can actually bring in a sense of calmness in the heart of the backline. But with no real moves being made to lure Maguire to Old Trafford, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that United need to act fast if they want to sign the Foxes’ prized asset.
The 46-year-old Northern Irishman said, “Of course, we can’t leave ourselves short. There are obviously going to be targets that we have in mind if Harry was to move on, but we don’t have to sell, we don’t need to sell. If there’s not a bid that meets our valuation then we won’t go right until the very end because if we then looked to get in someone it could be too late. There will be a point in time that even if the valuation is met, it may be too late.”
