Brentford 1-1 Manchester United: Match Report | Premier League 2023-24

Manchester United could not overcome a resilient Brentford side as they drew 1-1 against Thomas Frank’s side on Sunday.

The Red Devils scored the contest’s first goal in the 96th minute. However, the host responded in the 99th minute to shock United.

Mason Mount scored his first goal for the club through a smart move but Kristoffer Ajer ensured Brentford got their share of points.

First-half: Manchester United fail to stick to their attacking plans

The visitors started the game confidently and it was a routine start for them as they comfortably passed the ball in the opening 15 minutes.

Mathias Jorgensen’s close header highlighted the intense pressure on United’s defenders. Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane did well to control much of the danger.

However, the Danish ace slipped and the shot was saved by Bees shot-stopper Mark Flekken via a reflex save. But, the host’s silence didn’t last long as Toney and Wissa volleyed wide. Things went worse for United as Lindelof was subbed off due to an injury.

Varane was substituted for a similar reason in the first half. It was a rather frustrating evening for the club as they already dealing with injury crises.

Lisandro Martinez started for the first time in over two months but he was unable to guide his side to a win. Moments later Toney had put the ball in the net through Bryan Mbeumo’s superb curler. However, he was deemed offside by a very fine margin.

Mbeumo also struck the post just minutes later. The gaffer decided to bring on Mount and Casemiro for Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford. The Bees continued to show their attacking threat.

Just before regulation time, Dalot crashed his head with Brentford’s Neal Maupay leading to both players being accessed by the medical team. The officials decided to add nine minutes of stoppage time to the already dissolving game.

Holland used his strength to rush past the defenders and pass the ball to Casemiro. The Brazilian found Mount on the left and passed the ball through the space. Mount calmly slotted the ball into the net and past Flekken.

However, the hosts weren’t done yet. They immediately released a superb counter-attack with Toney showing incredible ball control as he pulled the ball back towards the penalty box. Ajer was there to stick a shot and the ball went past a thicket of bodies.

The score was levelled and it was a rather devastating moment for Man United. In the end, the points were shared as the match ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
