Brighton and Hove Albion 2-3 Manchester United Match Report | EPL 2020-21

Manchester United FC got their first points on board as well as the first win in the Premier League this season against Brighton. United looked very uncomfortable and were very lucky to come out with all three points from the games. With an own goal, Rashford and Bruno scored for United as the game ended in a 3-2 win for United.

Solskjaer came up with a strong lineup, but the inclusion of Lindelof instead of Bailly raised eyebrows, as the former played poorly against Crystal Palace last week. United started slowly which came to haunt them, as Brighton created many chances as time passed by. In fact, the Brighton side hit De Gea’s post and crossbar five times in the entire game, and United were very lucky to get away with a win.

Brighton opened the scoring through Maupay from the penalty spot, after Bruno fouled Lamptey in the penalty box. The Red Devils were quick to reply though as they scored via an own goal, which was first believed to be scored by Harry Maguire. VAR had a huge hand in the game as it cancelled a goal from United and a penalty for Brighton.

With the score of 1-1, both sides ended the half with some wind in their sails. After the game restarted, United pressed high and had the urgency, which saw Marcus Rashford score his first goal in the Premier League season. But soon after the goal, United sat back and defended deep. This helped Brighton dominate possession as came ever so close to the United goal.

Solskjaer made an error as well, as he brought on Bailly in place of Greenwood and Van de Beek in place of Martial. The boss changed the system to a 3-5-2 which took away United’s attacking threat. Eventually, Brighton scored in the fifth minute of added time deep into the second half and levelled the score.

Luckily, with the last United corner, Maguire’s header hit Maupay’s hand, resulting in a penalty kick which was the last kick of the game. Bruno stepped up and scored from the spot to make the score 3-2 and take all three points for United. The Red Devils played poorly, but got away with it and will need to level up big time.
