According to the Mirror, Brighton and Hove Albion are ready to offer a new contract to Manchester United target Moises Caicedo.
The Premier League rivals want to keep the star midfielder’s suitors away and would be looking forward to tying the 20-year-old to a long-term contract.
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal were also in the race to sign the South American sensation. The Seagulls want to increase the midfielder’s wages even if he has three years left on his present contract. This could be a tactic to lure the Caicedo into putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Current Chelsea boss Graham Potter signed the Ecuadorian in February 2021 and since then, he has been a regular player for the Seagulls. The 22-year-old has admitted that he is a fan of Manchester United and he would relish the chance to play for his dream club.
Last year, United were given the chance to sign the young star for just £4.5 million from Independiente del Valle, but they ignored the deal. It would require a competitive fee to sign the midfielder but as things stand, he seems happy at Brighton and would be looking forward to developing further.
Caicedo’s pace is an intriguing factor and Ten Hag needs strength and quickness in the middle of the field. Currently, the Old Trafford outfit has a range of options in midfield with new signing Cristian Eriksen proving to be a key player since signing from Brentford.
It remains to be seen whether the board decides to rediscover their interest in the 22-year-old in the next summer transfer window.
