Brighton set asking price for Moises Caicedo amid interest from United

According to The Mirror, Manchester United will have to shell out a massive fee of £85 million in order to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder, Moises Caicedo.

Erik ten Hag has strengthened his team’s midfield by bringing in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen this season, and the pair has already made a huge impact at Old Trafford.

However, this has not put an end to rumours of other signings, and United is one of the clubs interested in signing defensive midfielder Caicedo from Brighton.

In January, United had the opportunity to acquire the 20-year-old from Independiente for £5 million but they missed the opportunity. He is now reportedly valued at an outrageous £85 million by the league rivals in order to fend off interest from United. The Brighton star made his league debut just six months back, but his outstanding defensive qualities have already had a significant influence on the seagulls.

He has won 5.3 duels per game this season while recording outstanding numbers by notching 2.8 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old has developed into a top defensive midfielder at Brighton, and the next World Cup in Qatar might help him strengthen his profile ahead of a possible move.

An immediate departure is very difficult given the high price tag, but teams might be lining up to grab him in the summer transfer window. Currently, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Liverpool are also interested in acquiring his services. United has the resources to buy the Ecuadorian star, but the key question is if Erik ten Hag wants to start a second holding midfielder in his line-up.

The Red Devils already have Scott McTominay and Fred in addition to a new signing, Casemiro. If the club went after Caicedo’s services, one of the two defensive midfielders might have to leave the club.
