Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been appointed as the new captain of the club for the upcoming season.
This decision comes in the wake of manager Erik ten Hag’s move to take away the captaincy from Harry Maguire due to uncertainties surrounding the Englishman’s future at the club.
Despite Maguire’s decline in the team’s hierarchy, the defender expressed disappointment over losing his position as Man United’s captain.
Due to the center-back’s extended absences during the last season, Bruno Fernandes took on the captaincy for a significant part of the campaign.

Now, Fernandes has been officially appointed as the club’s captain on a permanent basis. Ten Hag’s decision to name the Portuguese as the next captain seems to have been an obvious one, as he has previously praised the 28-year-old’s exceptional leadership qualities on multiple occasions.
Since joining United in January 2020, Fernandes has been an outstanding addition to the team, showcasing both his skill and consistent availability. He has never missed a game due to injury issues.
In the previous season, he played more first-team minutes than any other player in Europe, demonstrating his exceptional fitness level.
Fernandes earned his first silverware with United by helping the team secure the Carabao Cup last season.
Now, as the newly appointed captain, he aims to lead the team to a successful period with more trophies, following in the footsteps of past legends at Old Trafford.
