Manchester United play their first Champions League game of the season later tonight as the Red Devils lock horns with PSG. Solskjaer would hope his United side will perform at their optimum best as they face last season’s runners-up, PSG. In his recent pre-match press conference, Solskjaer, to everyone’s surprise, announced that Bruno Fernandes will lead Manchester United later tonight.
It was earlier reported that the likes of Harry Maguire, Edinson Cavani, Eric Bailly and Mason Greenwood will miss the game against PSG. With Maguire missing, it was thought that either of De Gea or Bruno Fernandes would captain the Red Devils in Paris. In the press conference, Solskjaer cleared the air, and also caught Bruno off guard while announcing his captaincy.
When asked about tonight’s captain and Maguire’s injury, Solskjaer said: “We hope Harry will be fit for the weekend but we’re not sure. The captain is sitting next to me. Bruno will captain the team tomorrow (Tuesday).”
Bruno himself was surprised to know that he will be captaining the United side, even though he joined the club in January.
Bruno Fernandes is not new to responsibility or captaincy, as he was the captain at Sporting Lisbon. The Portuguese midfielder has been Manchester United’s talisman since joining the club and will be looking to lead the Red Devils to a victory tonight.
