A late goal from the hosts BSC Young Boys meant a defeat in the opening Champions League group stage fixture for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United on their travels to Switzerland.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
Manchester United were forced on the back foot early on in the game with Young Boys threatening to take the lead as Meschak Elia looked to cause trouble for David de Gea.
The Spanish shot-stopper, however, was up to the task and Elia’s double chance went to waste with the visitors making the most of an opportunity coming their way on the opposite end of the pitch.
Cristiano Ronaldo who was making his record-equalling appearance in the competition was there to capitalise on Bruno Fernandes’ fantastic pass which his compatriot bundled in the first time into the back of the net.
United could have doubled their advantage soon after the opener as Ronaldo was once again through on goal only for his effort to be denied by von Ballmoos.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were dealt a hammer blow just before half-time with full-back Aaron Wan-Bisaaka being given the marching orders by the referee after being shown the red card.
The visitors looked to lost momentum when playing with one less player on the pitch and the resume of play after the half-time break saw BSC Young Boys up the pressure on their opponents.
Ngamaleu toed his strike past David de Gea with a little more than 20 minutes left to play for and the goal gave the hosts something to cheer for.
Towards the dying stages of the game as Solskjaer made changes from his bench to replace the likes of Ronaldo and Fernandes, all seemed to go wrong for the visitors to the Wankdorf Stadium.
Jesse Lingard, brought on the pitch in place of Ronaldo, misjudged his pass which was pounced upon by Siebatcheau who slotted it past David de Gea in the United goal to snatch the win for the Swiss champions.
