Burnley showing interest in signing Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernandez

Burnley are showing interest in acquiring Manchester United’s left-back, Alvaro Fernandez, as reported by Sky Sports.

Fernandez had a successful loan stint with Preston North End in the Championship last season, recording six assists from 42 appearances.

He also displayed promising performances for Man United during the early stages of pre-season, including providing an assist in a friendly against Wrexham in the US.

With Ian Maatsen returning to Chelsea after an impressive loan spell, Burnley are considering making a move for Fernandez to bolster their left-back options.

The 20-year-old left-back joined United from Real Madrid’s academy three years ago. Last season, he gained valuable experience in senior football while playing for Preston North End in the Championship.

Operating as a left wing-back, Fernandez showcased impressive skills in tackling and excelled in ground and aerial duels.

He has expressed his desire to break into United’s first team but has also mentioned his interest in going on loan to a top league to further develop his game.

Burnley could be a suitable and ideal destination for Fernandez. The young left-back would have the opportunity to secure regular playing time in the Premier League under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, Burnley’s manager.

Kompany has shown a willingness to nurture and develop young talents, and Fernandez has a good chance of establishing himself in the left-back position at Burnley.

If the youngster impresses and makes a significant impact during his time with the Lancashire outfit, he could potentially catch the attention of Erik ten Hag, and become part of the club’s plans for the 2024/25 campaign.
