Carragher: Ronaldo’s return won’t turn United into title contenders

As reported by The Telegraph, Jamie Carragher has given an ugly statement claiming that Ronaldo’s return won’t guarantee United a title this season.

Manchester United had a wonderful transfer window this season. Signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo just sums up everything.

They have started the new season of the Premier League brightly. In 4 games, they have 3 wins and a draw and were placed at the top of the table last week which is a good sign. United had been making the mistake of losing games during the start of the season but this year it looks completely different as Solksjaer’s men have been hungry for a title.

But their progress was dealt a small blow when they lost against minnows BSC Young Boys in the group stage match of the Uefa Champions League.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels that signing Cristiano Ronaldo won’t guarantee a successful season for Manchester United until and unless they don’t change their playing style. He said: “What his arrival alone cannot do is turn United into a title-winning unit or impose the distinctive way of playing they still lack. The transitional era should be over. Whenever you watch a Pep Guardiola, Thomas Tuchel, and Jürgen Klopp team, they have an easily identifiable and settled style, regardless of how often they tweak personnel from one game to the next.”

“United still looks like an ensemble of brilliant individuals in need of being molded into a collective force. United’s Champions League defeat on Tuesday struck me as a classic example of a coach in a position where he could overthink his selection so ended up making changes in an attempt to keep everyone happy. This might become a recurring problem and is partially a knock-on effect from the Ronaldo deal.”

We think that Carragher made it too early to give such a prediction on the fact that Manchester United has been performing better this season after Ronaldo’s arrival.

Obviously, the laughable point is that Carragher also said that Ronaldo will cause more problems to Man United. He said: “‘The difference with Cantona is he was the final piece of the jigsaw for Sir Alex Ferguson. Ronaldo may eventually complete the puzzle for United. At the moment, it looks like he may have created a set of new ones for Solskjaer.”

We know that Jamie Carragher doesn’t like Manchester United as he is a former Liverpool player, but such claims will in fact make him look like an amateur pundit.

If United wins a trophy this season, we consider Carragher should change his thinking style.
