Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has broken his silence on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club abruptly in the middle of the season.
The Brazilian star admits that he is sad to see the striker depart in such a manner after having a successful spell with United in the past. Ronaldo’s explosive interview affected his status at the club as he tore apart the United board for betraying him and the manager for treating him with disrespect.
He had to face the consequences as the club decided to part ways with the striker on mutual consent. The 37-year-old was released immediately. Casemiro played just three months with Ronaldo, a player with whom he has won numerous titles at Real Madrid.
Speaking in a pre-match conference before Brazil’s clash against Switzerland, Casemiro was asked about his former teammate. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“I haven’t exchanged any messages with him, but Cristiano Ronaldo is a player with great experience, and he knows what’s best for his career. Of course, we are sad a player like him is leaving because we are talking about one of the best players of all time.”
“I wish him all the best in his football career – except when he plays against me – but I wish him all the best.”
Brazil is the favourite to lift the World Cup and Casemiro will be a key player to make it happen. There are chances of both, Casemiro and Ronaldo facing each other in the later stages of the competition.
The South American side have four United player in the squad. Fred, Antony and Alex Telles (on loan to Sevilla) have all done their duties well alongside Casemiro.
