Casemiro names his Manchester United idol in his first interview

New signing Casemiro has named Paul Scholes as his Manchester United idol growing up. The 30-year-old defensive midfielder has revealed that he admired the English midfielder’s attributes on the field.

Even after being not the toughest player in the squad, Scholes was one of the best in his position. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, he won an astonishing 11 Premier League titles and a number of other trophies including the Champions League.

The Brazilian star has also named Michael Carrick as another former United star whom he admires. Casemiro’s words do highlight the fact that he has followed the club over the years and the player himself revealed that he loved to watch players like Rio Ferdinand, Edwin Van der Saar and Cristiano Ronaldo dominate the field.

Speaking in an interview with the club’s official website, he said:

“So, in terms of idols in this position my idol growing up was always [Zinedine] Zidane, [but] here at Manchester United it was always Paul Scholes. He’s a player that was small but he got stuck in, he was a fighter, and he gave everything on the pitch. His passing over 50 to 70 metres was incredible.”

The former Real Madrid star has won a lot of trophies in Spain including five Champions League titles but he would be happy to start a new journey with a club that he admires. Although United has a rich history, the club has been unable to repeat its success since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club.

The fans have high hopes for Erik ten Hag and they expect the manager to bring back the lost glory. Casemiro could be an asset for the Dutch manager and he will be hoping to follow his idol’s path and win trophies for the club.

The Red Devils were in need of a commanding defensive midfielder who can dominate the centre of the field and the 30-year-old’s tough playing style might provide him with the upper hand in the league.
