Casemiro set to miss crucial league games after receiving a red card against Crystal Palace

Manchester United overcame a late push from Crystal Palace to win by a 2-1 scoreline as Casemiro was sent off for grabbing Will Hughes by the throat.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Casemiro will be suspended for the following three league games after receiving a straight red card. Erik ten Hag admitted that Casemiro “stepped over the line” after the game, but he criticised the referee for being inconsistent throughout.

Following the game, David de Gea shared a humorous Jose Mourinho gif expressing his disapproval of the referee’s decision to dismiss Casemiro.

It is unknown if United will file an appeal against the judgement and seek to get the veteran’s suspension overturned. Only Casemiro received a red card as a result of the fight that started between Antony and Jeffrey Schlupp. Ayew placed his hand around Fred’s throat during the same altercation but got away with it. Given the similarity of the two occurrences, Ayew was just instructed to go away.

In United’s previous match against the Eagles, Palace attacker Jean-Philippe Mateta elbowed Lisandro Martinez, but VAR totally missed the incident.

Andy Carroll committed a terrible challenge on Christian Eriksen in the most recent FA Cup game against Reading. The Danish midfielder sustained an injury that sidelined him for three months, but no action was taken against Carroll.

Casemiro will now sit out three games against Leeds United (twice) and Leicester City due to his immediate suspension. With Scott McTominay’s fitness in doubt, Ten Hag must make a difficult decision about how to reorganise his midfield.
