According to the Sun, Manchester United is leading the race to sign RB Salzburg’s young attacking prodigy, Benjamin Sesko. The likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the Slovenian attacker, who the German club values at €50 million.
Following his breakout season with Red Bull Salzburg in 2021/22, Benjamin Sesko has emerged as one of the hottest properties. The Austrian club has slowly elevated the 19-year-old, and he is set to be their first-choice striker during the 2022–23 season.
Sesko has had a solid start to the new season, tallying two goals and one assist in his first three games. Unsurprisingly, the Slovenian international has caught the attention of numerous prestigious European clubs, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Chelsea.
The fact that Karim Benzema is getting older is what Real Madrid is interested in. The French international is far into his 30s and still going strong, forcing Real Madrid to create a succession plan for him. Sesko, who prefers to play at the Santiago Bernabeu, has surfaced as a potential target for Los Blancos.
The long-term future of Cristiano Ronaldo is a concern for Manchester United, as the Portuguese international is eager to sign with a team competing in the UEFA Champions League.
Chelsea just entered the battle to sign Sesko, and this week, owner Todd Boehly personally began negotiations with the player’s agents. Romelu Lukaku has not yet been replaced by a player signed by the Blues.
Additionally, the west London team will need to sign a striker, with Sesko being a viable option given Timo Werner’s unclear future at Chelsea.
However, Manchester United are best placed to sign the 19-year-old this summer, leaving Real Madrid and Chelsea in the dust in the battle to sign him. If Sesko prefers to leave for the Red Devils, he would cost roughly less than his asking price.
