Manchester United FC No.1 David De Gea has struggled for form this season and has cost the team in important games. The Spaniard was once regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world, but that has struggled for the past couple of years. United are looking at their goalkeeper on-loan at Sheffield, Dean Henderson, to replace David, but Chelsea are keen to get his services.
Henderson has been out on loan with Sheffield United from the past couple of years and is relishing his time. Last season he played in the Championship and as the Blades were promoted, he came up with them as well. Henderson has been an integral part of the Blades as is the main reason for their position in the league table.
Henderson has been immaculate in his first season in the Premier League and has kept 13 clean sheets. With De Gea’s dipping form and Henderson’s rapid growth, there have been rumours about the latter replacing De Gea. Henderson is keen to nail down the No.1 spot at Old Trafford and has been very vocal about his ambitions.
But it is believed that Solskjaer wants to give De Gea one more year to give a chance to improve. On the other hand, Henderson is ready for the step up to a big club and doesn’t have a shortage of suitors. Chelsea are reportedly very keen on getting Henderson and will even offer him a contract of £175,000 a week.
The Red Devils had previously blocked Chelsea’s attempts to sign Henderson but the Blues haven’t given up just yet. With Kepa Arrizabalaga having a dismal season, Lampard is hell-bent on bringing in a world-class goalkeeper to Stamford Bridge this transfer window. With his performances this season in the Premier League, Dean Henderson is favourite along with Nick Pope to be the England No.1.
Chelsea will keep pushing to get Henderson on their side, but it seems very unlikely for that to happen. United see Henderson as the long-term replacement for David De Gea and rate him very highly. Come the end of the season, Solskjaer will have a very difficult decision to make regarding Henderson.
