Chelsea To Hijack Manchester United’s Move For Benjamin Sesko?

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t Teamtalk), Chelsea are set to hijack Manchester United’s move for RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko.

 Benjamin Sesko

The Slovenian ace joined the German club last summer from RB Salzburg. He was on the bench for the first few months but has since been a regular player in their starting XI.

The 20-year-old has scored 14 goals in 38 appearances, 10 of which came in the Bundesliga this campaign. Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Man United, and Chelsea are keen admirers of the youngster.

The Blues were targeting Napoli star Victor Osimhen as their new No. 9. However, Paris Saint-Germain are a frontrunner in this race now, and are expected to sign him in the upcoming months.

Hence, Chelsea have set their sights on Sesko. RB Leipzig knows the player’s interest and aims to extend his current contract.

However, his current deal includes a £42 million release clause. The German side will be forced to change their mind if any potential suitor decides to meet that clause.

United have decided against signing Serhou Guirassy due to the age factor. Sesko might be a fantastic long-term addition to the Old Trafford outfit. He can be used alongside Rasmus Hojlund on the front line.

He will also provide tough competition for the Danish ace. Anthony Martial is expected to leave the club this summer, and the Leipzig star will be a top replacement for the Frenchman.

However, they need to navigate around the intense competition surrounding the young striker. Arsenal are also looking for a strong backup option, and they might enter this race in the upcoming months.

Chelsea and Arsenal can easily meet that asking fee and United should be one step ahead in this race. They need to make the first bid in order to gain advantage in this transfer race.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to bring in more reinforcements but he has accepted the fact that it might take time and the fans need to show patience at this stage.
