Christian Eriksen joins Manchester United on a three year deal

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Christian Eriksen has officially signed with Manchester United on a three-year deal after completing his medical tests.

The 30-year-old has decided against staying at Brentford after a successful loan season there last year. His arrival would improve Erik ten Hag’s midfield options at Old Trafford.

Due to the lengthy travel required from the UK, United’s preseason visit to Australia will not include the Danish midfielder.

Eriksen has the chance to work again with Ten Hag, who invited him to train with Ajax during his recovery from the heart arrest he suffered at Euro 2020. The manager had helped the midfielder in recovering as fast as possible.

Manchester United pursued Eriksen patiently and did not put any pressure on him to make a decision because they knew his decision would be influenced by factors other than football.

Eriksen lived with his family in London in Brentford, but he was drawn to United by the opportunity to work with Ten Hag and be a part of the club’s new era under the Dutchman.

After a productive half-season at Brentford, Eriksen had elite suitors, which was not surprising. Within weeks after Eriksen’s first game, Thomas Frank’s team went from being relegation candidates to a mid-table team, which was a remarkable turnaround.

The way Eriksen dramatically improved Ivan Toney’s playing in west London last season would have thrilled United. When Eriksen started games for the Bees, Brentford’s goals per game and Expected Goals ratios doubled, and their number of shots per game and touches in the box increased throughout that time.

At Old Trafford this season, Eriksen can provide similar assists to Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Cristiano Ronaldo, all of whom have been scoring goals for Erik Ten Hag’s team.
