A crucial part in winning games is to have a rock-solid defense. This is an area were United is lacking behind. A lot of clubs in the league have a better defensive stat when compared to the Red Devils. Red Devils have been consistently making errors at the back four. Throughout the season we got a good glance at it. Taking flaws out of United’s defense will take ages.
On the other hand, clubs like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are thriving on their defensive abilities.
Manchester City are the reigning champions and there’s a very distinctive trait that completely makes them different from the other PL clubs. Not only do they have a great attacking trio (Foden, Mahrez and Sterling) but also a hard core defense (Ruben Dias, Cancelo, John Stones and Walker). City hits on the break and this where their strong defense comes in handy. City’s RB (Cancelo) is gifted with a good passing ability and tremendous pace making him look like a prolific striker as his name is often on the score-sheet.
Liverpool is known to have one of the best defense in Europe as it comprised of the Dutchman, Virgil Van Dijk. Klopp has done a good job by bringing out another talent to the footballing universe and that is none other than the young English right-back, Trent Alexander Arnold. Arnold has 11 assists to his name so far in the league. Another player under Klopp that goes quite under the radar is Joel Matip. Together, this team makes a very good competitor for the European and the Premier League title.
Under the perfect guidance of Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea is another difficult team to beat. Rudiger has quickly emerged as one of the best CBs in the world along with another young talent, Reece James. England is surely going to relish and make the best out of James as he has pace and a good shooting ability. On the other hand, Azpiliceuta is one of the most competent captains in the Premier League. Overall, Chelsea’s defense is what makes their rivals fear rather than their attacking abilities.
NOW LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THESE TEAMS – (Defensive abilities)
OVERALL ANALYSIS-
From the above shown stats its pretty clear that United is still in the back foot and teams like City, Chelsea and Liverpool are miles ahead. United has kept only 7 clean sheets despite spending more than €180m on defenders. Title race between the two giants (Liverpool and Manchester City) has again begun and it all comes down to this very fixture when these two sides meet each other on the 10th of April. Chelsea have almost guaranteed their third-spot in the table. Arsenal on the other hand, has a major advantage by having two games in hand and taking the fourth-spot.
