Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play until he is 42 years of age

Since returning to Manchester United in the summer, Cristiano Ronaldo has dominated the Premier League.

He has been the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season, despite his tally of eight goals in 16 games not being particularly eye-catching given his high playing standards.

The presence of a generational footballer such as Ronaldo in the Premier League has also resulted in greater viewing and revenue.

The athlete has been praised for his fitness and ability to perform at the top level of the game, in addition to his performances. But, at the tender age of 36, it begs the issue of when the Portuguese will retire.

Ronaldo clarified his future ambitions in a recent interview with ESPN, not only at Manchester United but also in his overall career. Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo aspires to play for at least four to six more years, allowing him to compete in the 2026 World Cup.

The legendary striker said:

“Genetically I feel like I’m 30 years old. I take great care of my body and my mind. Something I’ve learned recently is that after 33, I believe the body can deliver if you need it, but the real battle is mental. Going through many things with the focus on the end goal of staying at a high level is the hardest thing, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last few years. “

“I’ve been working and focusing more on working on my mind. I know my body will handle me because I have a lot of respect for it and I listen to it a lot. I want to find out if I’m going to play until I’m 40, 41, or 42. But the most important thing is that my daily goal is to enjoy the moment.”

Till now, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored over 800 goals for club and country and if he continues to play at this rate, he may soon touch the 1000 goal mark.

In response to criticism from several pundits and ex-players, including Paul Scholes, who questioned Rangnick’s credibility earlier this month, the Portuguese international defended new coach Ralf Rangnick, suggesting that the former RB Leipzig manager needs more time to get his ideas across to the new players.

Manchester United, who are currently in seventh place in the Premier League, are looking for a change of fortune when they face Aston Villa later this evening.
