Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has ruled out a move for Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo in January amid links connecting the former United star with a move to the Allianz Arena.
The 37-year-old attacker is now without a club after leaving Old Trafford by mutual consent following his bombshell Piers Morgan interview.
Ronaldo harshly criticised the Glazer family, many board members, manager Erik ten Hag, and former players during the TalkTV interview.
Following his remarks, which ultimately resulted at the end of his career at Old Trafford, Ten Hag is believed to have advised United’s board that the Portugal international should never play for the club again.
Though Ronaldo is presently focused on leading Portugal at the 2022 World Cup, rumours about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s future are still rampant as we enter the last month of the year.
Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich ever since Robert Lewandowski left for Barcelona in the summer. Ronaldo has played in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Primeira Liga, but has yet to test his standards in the Bundesliga.
The German powerhouses “considered” signing Ronaldo, according to Bayern CEO Kahn, but they have now dropped out of the race.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:
“We have already dealt with this. We have a clear idea, and a clear philosophy, regarding how our squad should be put together. We all appreciate him, but there’s no discussion. We all love Cristiano Ronaldo, but that’s something that doesn’t fit into our idea.”
According to a recent source, Chelsea has also decided against pursuing Ronaldo, making Bayern Munich, not the only elite European club to have made this decision.
Ronaldo may move outside of Europe as a result of the rejection by teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, and Sporting Lisbon, as well as the rumoured interest of Middle Eastern clubs.
According to a recent source, the Saudi Arabian champions Al-Hilal are willing to pay Ronaldo more than the £500,000 per week that he earned during his second stint at United. Ronaldo became the first player in World Cup history to score in five different World Cup campaigns as Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2 in their tournament opener last Thursday.
The legendary striker then failed to score in Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay on Monday, after claiming to have connected with a Bruno Fernandes inswinging cross. Nevertheless, Fernando Santos’s side was still able to advance to the round of 16.
