Crystal Palace 1-0 Manchester United Match Report | PL 21-22

The catastrophic season for Manchester United has finally come to an end after a 1-0 defeat in the hands of the mighty Eagles led by Patrick Vieira. United secured their Europa League spot as Brighton swept past West Ham with a 3-1 score line.

United made a very promising start to end their campaign on a high note and show their new boss Erik Ten Hag,who was in that crowd watching his team play before taking that mighty job the next season, but it was short-lived. Bruno Fernandes put forward a sublime pass to Edison Cavani who made quite a good effort to put that ball inside the net but the Palace keeper Guaita made a good save to deny him.
As the match started to create the momentum, a smart United break spearheaded by Elanga, saw United have a brilliant chance to score the opener but Bruno Fernandes put it wide past the far post.

De Gea once again was found busy as Crystal Palace by the likes of Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha kept the pressure on the shaky United defence. United lacked the quality upfront today. Ronaldo was absent due to injury along with Rashford and Sancho out due to the same reason.

Hannibal Majbri got his first spot in the starting lineup for the first time in his career. Jeffrey Schlupp came very close to scoring the Palace opener but within a few minutes, a Bruno Fernandes mistake cost United to concede. Zaha as usual was calm enough and just ease past Lindelof and Dalot leaving De Gea to just watch the ball go in.

Selhurst Park was buzzing when the ball went past De Gea. There was a heated situation between Hannibal and Will Hughes just before the half-time when Hannibal tackled Zaha from the back. Unfortunately, Martin Atkinson(referee) what happened to be his final game in charge showed a yellow card to our debutant(Hannibal). Mata was brought on to mark his last game in that United shirt. Joachim Andersen almost headed into his own net when Juan Mata curled a ball towards Fred in the box.

In that last 10 mins of the heated fixture and an embarrassing night, Cavani was hauled down in the box but the referee deemed it as not a foul preventing United from having a penalty in that crucial time. Remarkably there wasn’t any VAR check to find whether it was right or wrong. In the last few minutes, Mctominay hit a shot that waved high past the keeper and the curtains were finally drawn marking United’s defeat and ending their campaign on the 6th spot.

On the other hand, we got to witness one of the most enthralling ends to the Premier League season when Manchester City came back from 2-0 down to make it 3-2 by the end of the 90+4 minutes. Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri clinching City’s fourth title in five years. Liverpool tried their best to steal the show with a 3-1 victory against Wolves but City showed that they are made of fine attire and the worthy Champions of England.
