David De Gea was the hero of the night as Manchester United defeated West Ham by a 2-1 scoreline.
It was his first penalty save in the last five years after failing to save 40 penalties over the years. Manchester United’s No.1 goalkeeper was given the nod ahead of Dean Henderson as the English goalkeeper is down with Covid.
David De Gea was asked by SkySports about the save and how he is feeling after the match, to which he replied:
“It was the last minute, I made the save. A massive three points for us. Going through my head was ‘save the ball’. It was a really tough game, both teams had good chances, again a great goal from Jesse. It is a massive three points. In the dressing room, we said the three points were the most important thing.”
Manchester United went ahead after scoring their second goal in the 89th minute. It was looking as if United will secure the win at the end but the end was not so easy for them.
Luke Shaw appeared to have handled the ball in the penalty box. The referee himself waved play-on but after viewing from the video camera, he then overturned the decision and pointed to the penalty spot.
West Ham manager David Moyes made a quick decision and substituted Bowen for Mark Noble who was given the responsibility of taking the game-saving penalty kick.
But David De Gea had other plans, he dived to his left and made a superb save to save all three points for the team. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and the whole team ran towards De Gea after the whistle and hugged him for his wonderful save.
What a breathtaking game it was!
