David De Gea Wants To Become Manchester United Captain

Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea might have just put his contract disputes beyond doubt after admitting that he would love to be named as captain Manchester United.

The Red Devils endured quite a horrendous season in the Premier League as they finished sixth on the table and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a massive job on his hands to try and get United back to the summit in English football.

The Norwegian manager has already recruited Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka but Solskjaer needs to ensure that he keeps hold of his prized assets and not lose out on them as they would hamper the building stages. David De Gea is certainly one of those players despite the 28-year-old not really having a great season last term as he made some high profile errors.

But De Gea is being offered a new contract because ever since joining Manchester United back in 2011, he has transformed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world. In fact, De Gea was stalling contract talks with the 20 time Premier League champions but it appears that the Spaniard is set to sign a new deal by hinting that he would love to captain Manchester United.

In a recent interview, De Gea said, “I’ve been captain for some games, Of course, it is amazing to be captain of a club like Manchester United and defend this badge. It’s amazing, so of course, I’ll be really, really happy to captain. It’s my ninth season, I feel like one of the most experienced players, I need to show that on the pitch and try to help the young guys know what Manchester United means and that’s important. We have to improve a lot. We are Manchester United; we need to fight for trophies. When you put on this badge, that’s what it means – fight for everything, give your best and bring the team again to the top”
