Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince says the Red Devils are ‘a complete mess’ and is concerned by De Gea’s comments in his post-match interview.
David de Gea described Manchester United’s form as “unacceptable” as a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United left Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side only two points above the relegation zone.
The Spain goalkeeper joined his manager in apologizing to traveling fans after a Newcastle counterattack following a visiting corner led to 19-year-old Matty Longstaff scoring the winning goal on his Premier League debut for Steve Bruce’s previously struggling side.
But Paul Ince nicknamed “The Guv’nor” is not impressed with De Gea.
Paul Ince told Paddy Power: ‘I watched David de Gea’s post-match interview and I was at a loss.
‘He’s meant to be one of the leaders, if that was Peter Schmeichel standing there, there’s no chance you’d have seen that interview.
‘This is one of the top players, the leaders at Man United, who has just signed a five-year contract.
‘And he looks like he doesn’t have a clue what’s going on.
‘If you’re a United fan listening to your goalkeeper – one of the main leaders in the team – and that’s the interview you hear, you’d be right to be disgraced.’
United are enduring their worst start to a season since 1989 with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still searching for his first away victory since being announced as Manchester United’s permanent manager last season.
United’s run of fixtures will not get any easier with the Red Devils facing Liverpool when Premier League action resumes after the international break.
