David De Gea came to our rescue against Villarreal. We can proudly say that the Spanish goalkeeper was our man of the match and his performance justifies it.
Purely dominating display and Villarreal had no answers for him. They were simply unable to get the ball past him until Paco Alcacer scored. From the very first whistle, David De Gea was straight into the action as he made a stunning save to deny Arnaut Danjuma from scoring.
Another host of world-class saves followed and he picked up all the long balls really well. He was again on duty in the second half and made a jaw-dropping double save in the 86th minute of the game.
Villarreal’s Moi Gomez had a shot saved by De Gea and the rebound from Boulaye Dia was again pushed away from the Spanish shot-stopper.
David De Gea made six saves against Villarreal, the third most by a Man Utd goalkeeper in a single game in the #UCL since 2016/17.

Such was his impact that our manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was outpouring loads of praises for our legendary goalkeeper. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, He said:
“Thankfully we had the best goalkeeper in the world tonight. David was fantastic. Second-half, they had more of the ball, was open and they deserved to lead. He had a difficult summer after [the Europa League final], he went to the Euros, didn’t play there but he’s really come back with a determination, a belief, and work-rate I enjoy.”
“And in this game, he got his deserved outcome, because he saved us. He saved us tonight. We have to be realistic and say that. We’ve got two good keepers in Tom [Heaton] and Dean [Henderson] but today David deserves the man of the match.”
Yes, he had a difficult summer, but came on early in training during the pre-season games and showed great determination for the new season.
He has already made an impact in the Premier League this season and he is doing the same in the Champions League.
