Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has withdrawn from England’s Euro 2020 squad and will be replaced by Aaron Ramsdale.
A hip injury is why Henderson’s Euro 2020 season came to an abrupt end, even before it truly began, as Gareth Southgate named Jordan Pickford in the goal for England’s opener against Croatia.
Gutted for you, @deanhenderson.
Wishing you a quick recovery 👊

Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale, who was an important member of Southgate’s initial 33-man squad for the finals, will have Henderson’s spot to fill. The United goalie will get back to Manchester for treatment.
He will, in any case, have no further influence on the team and has been replaced for the entire tournament by Sheffield United’s Ramsdale.
As reported by SkySports, The FA said: “Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Dean Henderson in England’s UEFA EURO 2020 squad. Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament. Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage. The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season.”
Uefa guidelines permit any player to be replaced on medical issues at any phase of the competition.
Ramsdale, 23, is uncapped at senior level and will presently turn into England’s first Staffordshire player at such a huge competition since 1962, with the last being Gerry Hitchens. The Blades’ recently crowned player of the year will fancy his chances of showing his potential however it appears that Pickford has the goalkeeping spot fixed for now.
We all wanted to see Dean Henderson shine for the national team but it seems that his injury had other plans for him. Never mind, we wish Dean Henderson a speedy recovery.
