Denis Irwin is a Manchester United legend and arguably the best left-back to have played for the club in the Premier League era. The Mancunian certainly knows a few things about football and especially playing at left-back. In his recent interview with Manchester United’s Official Website, Denis Irwin has asked Telles to step up with Shaw’s hamstring injury as the Brazilian looks to make his Premier League debut.
Alex Telles has had a difficult start to his Manchester United career, as he has contracted the coronavirus twice. But finally, his chance will come this weekend in the Premier League, as Manchester United play hosts to West Brom. Telles is very likely to do well for the Red Devils on Sunday after he tested negative for the virus earlier.
In his recent interview, Irwin said: “It’s an opportunity for him now, with the games coming up, to get his foot in there. And sometimes it’s through lack of injuries that you manage to hold down the place of the left-back position. I mean, we haven’t seen him too much [from him] defensively wise, but the Premier League is a tough league and he’s a full-back, so he’ll have to be good defensively.”
Alex Telles is one of the best left-backs in Europe and needs to show his mettle in the Premier League as soon as possible. The former Porto man needs to rise to the occasion and perform like he always did for his former club. Only time will tell if Telles does well with the Red Devils or not.
