Manchester United defeated Derby at the Pride Park as hostility returned in the FA Cup third round. It was an opportunity for the host to lock horns with a Premier League side especially of a team like that of Manchester United’s pedigree.
In the end though they lost the match to the Red Devils at home they have learned valuable lesson as they set their eye on a return to the English top flight in earnest.
With the goals rolling in for the Red Devils against modest side Derby County we take a look at the 3 talking points from the match.
LUKE SHAW GOAL CLAIM
The Manchester United left back was at the top of his game as he delivered defensively and on the attacking front. In one of his overlapping duties he took the chance to register his name on the score sheet.
This saw Luke Shaw hit a volley off the rebound that cannoned away from the Derby defenders. It was a brilliant goal from the eye-sight as Luke effort hit the back of the net in special fashion.
However, the contention is who claims the goal as reports say it touched the back of Jesse Lingard before reaching the back of the net Luke Shaw has claimed the effort that came in the 33rd minutes but what will be the overall.
CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR MANCHESTER DERBY
When you win 3-0 away from home, be sure to generate a certain level of confidence within the squad. However, it looks as United’s victory will be undermined due to the nature of the opponent they faced in Derby County.
But this must have prepared them mentally ahead of the Manchester Derby as they welcome Manchester City at Old Trafford this weekend.
The quality of opposition faced is important even as we acknowledge that Derby County is not on the same level with Pep Guardiola’s side.
But the win will boost Solskjaer side ahead of next game when the citizens visit on Super Sunday.
WAYNE ROONEY UNITED REUNION
It was an interesting evening of football for many reasons more as United visited Derby County at the Pride Park Stadium. The United side was facing the host Derby with former United striker and legend leading the Derby side.
It was a massive reception for the player as he met with a lot of the Red Devil’s players. He was pictured by the Camera hugging former teammate Juan Mata as emotion was driven in the contest.
This is how much of a significance it means to both parties (Rooney and United players) as the Red Devils reunited with one of their own in Wayne Rooney during the FA Cup match with Derby County.
