France manager Didier Deschamps has given his verdict on Paul Pogba performing much better for France than for Manchester United.
After Pogba stunned everyone with his magical display during France’s Euro 2020 opener against Germany, there were claims the midfielder was giving his best game for his country but struggling for form at Manchester United this season.
The Frenchman looked inconsistent in United’s crucial part of the 2020-21 season, even in the penalty shootout loss to Villarreal in the Europa League final, and a few United fans might want to see a greater amount of the Pogba we see for France.
In any case, Les Bleus manager Deschamps is having none of it, making it clear he is supporting Pogba and doesn’t want to analyze his club performances.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Didier Deschamps said: “For me, it’s only the French Pogba that counts. Obviously, everything that I say is going to… I don’t like to say what is happening at club football, be it talking about Solskjaer or any other coach. Players are different, coaches are different. What’s important for me is only what he’s doing for the French team and the importance he has on the pitch. He’s a real-born leader, even though, yes, maybe today he didn’t have his best performance. But he had a blinder against Germany. He was slightly not as good today but he is a highly influential player.”
Pogba dazzled against Germany, however, he was not at his usual best against Hungary on Saturday.

In truth, it’s consistency that is the issue for the midfielder, which is a concern for his form at the club and country, and he will be eager to return to his best as France get ready to take on Portugal in a colossal game on Wednesday night.
Les Bleus are effectively through with four points, yet they may well have to win this game after Germany beat Portugal to proceed onward to three points, one point behind France, ahead of their last group stage game, against Hungary.
