Did former United boss Van Gaal make a mistake by letting Michael Keane go?

Van Gaal was a celebrated coach who won a lot of honours in his time as a top-flight coach but one could say that his time at Manchester United was certainly no bed of roses.

Even the greats of the game make mistakes along the way and one can only expect that from humans after all. Michael Keane who is now enjoying his time at Everton under Carlo Ancelotti was once a Red Devil.

He played only a few matches which included a pre-season match against Real Madrid and which did not make things any easier for him. He was then loaned away to Burnley and that move was made permanent.

The clarets then sold him to Everton for a sum of £30million. He developed his craft at Burnley under the demanding Sean Dyche and is now enjoying a great spell under Ancelotti at Everton. To top it all the ex-Manchester United player has also featured for the England national team.

“Michael played against Real Madrid on a pre-season tour and Gareth Bale gave him a bit of a chasing,” Joyce told the Manchester Evening News.

Joyce who was the manager of the reserve team at that time also explained that Keane had a tough schedule, had just fought a relegation battle with Leicester and that shipping him off may have been a bit too premature.

Michael Keane is at the peak of his career and looks all set to make more appearances for the England squad in the near future. With the likes of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo failing to make a lasting impact, Keane could have been the solution that they were looking for. They seem to have sorted out their defensive issues temporarily but it keeps cropping up time and again.
