Didier Deschamps describes Paul Pogba’s role in the French team

As reported by Manchester Evening News, France manager Didier Deschamps has heaped praise on French midfielder Paul Pogba describing him as a ‘complete midfielder’ for his stellar role in France’s Euro 2020 campaign.

Pogba, 28, is hoping to add the European Championship to his illustrious trophy cabinet after previously winning the World Cup with his country in 2018. His performances this year have been remarkable as he has been the main engine of the current French midfield.

Having a solid midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante helps Pogba a lot and it is very difficult for any other team to leave them speechless at Euro 2020.

France now takes on Switzerland in the last-16 yet as the Dutch discovered against the Czech Republic at the end of the week, you can expect opposition teams to take you by surprise and give you a big disappointment.

In any case, there has been a continuous discussion this year regarding why Pogba plays so diversely for France than for Man United. France manager Didier Deschamps has opened the cover on the midfielder’s job for his country in this Euros and also reveals about his liberal role.

He said: “Listen, Paul is a complete midfielder. He has so many qualities, he can pass vertically, diagonally, all of this is part of his game. Then, of course, we work on the positioning, but it’s not only about playing goof passes, it’s also about the positioning before the pass. His role is quite liberal, he’s not limited in the offensive approach. If there’s a need, he can also go back to win the ball behind, but on the pitch sometimes he can play a little bit higher or lower. His position can also develop between the left and the right side, it just depends on the positioning of the other players.”

Deschamps is certainly using Pogba very smartly and making sure that the player gets all the conditions he needs to excel at his role. Pogba himself has previously revealed about this role to play more offensively.

His versatile role has certainly been a plus point for France and it will be great to see him play the same way at Manchester United next season.
