‘Difficult to finish in top-four’ admits Ralf Rangnick after Everton loss

Manchester United’s awful season has only gotten worse after the Red Devils’ latest lackluster performance resulted in a 1-0 loss away to relegation-threatened Everton.

Marcus Rashford was given a rare start, and he had an immediate impact, forcing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford into two good saves.

Everton was trying to gain some momentum in the game, and just as the Goodison crowd started booing the players, academy graduate Anthony Gordon gave the home fans something to cheer about.

Gordon got a loose ball in the United box and his curling effort from the edge of the area took a vicious deflection from United captain Harry Maguire and soared past a helpless David de Gea.

In the second half, Manchester United searched for an equalizer, but despite Rangnick bringing on Juan Mata and Anthony Elanga, they lacked intensity throughout the match.

United remain in seventh place, seven points below the top four, with the clubs above them having games in hand, and interim manager Rangnick talked about his team’s lack of physicality once more after the game.

Also, when asked about his team’s chances in the top four, the German coach revealed that it is looking difficult to gain a Champions League spot this season.

As reported by SkySports, he said:

“It’s not only creativity. I think we had enough creative players on the pitch. It’s also about being physical enough in the final third, being physical and trying to score a goal. We didn’t have enough players in the box. Difficult to finish in the top four. As long as we don’t win our own games it doesn’t make sense to hope for good results from the other teams.”

Manchester United’s hopes of getting a stronghold of the league table were further hit by Tottenham’s strong win against Aston Villa. With Arsenal having a game in hand and West Ham having equal points as United, the race for the top is heating up.

The big game that could potentially decide United’s faith would be against their top-rival Arsenal on the 23rd of April. If we want to be better than today, then winning every match from now can help us a bit if Tottenham losses their upcoming matches.

The current season will have a big impact on the summer transfer window as many big players are already waiting for the chance to play in the Champions League. However, Manchester United are currently not doing themselves and their next manager any good, with their current standings.
