Manchester United right back Diogo Dalot has revealed that his current contract negotiations are heading in the right direction.
The Portuguese player has been a standout for the team this season, ranking among its finest players under Erik ten Hag. He was obviously “undroppable” before the World Cup, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka played just four minutes because of his dominance.
With a clause in his contract, United recently extended Dalot’s stay until June 2024, and discussions with the Portuguese star and his agent about a new contract are currently under way.
Dalot has now revealed that his contract talks are underway and that the focus is on how both parties will profit from the deal. While talking to The United Stand, he said:
“We are talking about it, we are negotiating and we are seeing how both parties would benefit. It’s no secret that I’m happy to be here, I love this club and I love to play for this club.”
“So we’ll see how things will go, but progressively, we are going in a good direction as a team and this is, for me, the most important part, and hopefully I can still individually help the team as I’ve been doing.”

The full-back continued, saying it is no secret that he is happy at United and pleased with how this season is shaping up for the team. Dalot’s contract extension was recently activated by United, preventing him from speaking with other clubs during the current transfer window.
Now, the Red Devils must secure their long-term future. The 23-year-old player has about six months to sign a new, improved contract. Dalot has made it clear that he wants to stay longer, but the final choice may depend on the club’s willingness to make an offer.
He currently earns one of the lowest weekly incomes at £25,000. The adaptable full-back might demand close to £100,000 per week in exchange for committing his career to United.
The Red Devils need to act quickly as several elite teams are keeping tabs on the highly-rated defender, including Barcelona and Real Madrid.
